More About ICPMS-2030 | Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass SpectrometerICPMS-2030 | Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer
With its newly developed collision cell and optimized internal structure, the Shimadzu ICPMS-2030 provides superior sensitivity. At the same time, thanks to the adoption of its proprietary mini-torch unit and provision of an Eco mode, the quantity of argon gas needed for analyses has been greatly reduced to the industry’s lowest levels. As a result, low running costs are assured. The Development Assistant function of the software automatically sets the optimal analysis conditions for quantitative analysis. Then, after measurements are complete, the Diagnosis Assistant function automatically checks the validity of the necessary data. While reducing the burden on the user, the efficiency of analyses is enhanced and the reliability of the data can be increased. It complies with FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
ICPMS-2030 overview
Two Assistant Functions Simplify Analysis
The Development Assistant simplifies the process of developing analytical methods. The Diagnosis Assistant automatically diagnoses spectral interference. Together, they provide analytical results with exceptionally high reliability.
- Development Assistant: Creating analytical methods for ICPMS-2030 Series analysis involves only selecting the measured and target elements, even for samples being analyzed for the first time. Then, based on the qualitative analysis data (for all mass numbers) from a representative sample, the Development Assistant automatically selects the optimal mass numbers and internal standard elements for the target measurement elements and automatically specifies the concentration range for calibration curve samples.
- Diagnosis Assistant: The Diagnosis Assistant automatically diagnoses spectral interference, based on data measured from all mass numbers. Even when using an already established method for routine analysis, the software analyzes data for any spectral interference to determine if a problem occurred.
Higher Sensitivity and Lower Interference
- Achieve High-Sensitivity and Low-interference Analyses Using Newly Developed Collision Cell: With this newly developed collision cell, polyatomic ions that previously may have been detected as spectral interference are efficiently eliminated by helium gas flowing through the cell, allowing the high-sensitivity analysis.
- On-Line IEC (Inter-Element Correction): Shimadzu’s proprietary On-Line IEC (Inter Element Correction) provides correction for spectral interference that could not be eliminated with the collision cell. Since the interference correction coefficient can be acquired only by a single measurement of a standard sample of the interfering element, the correction can be simply and accurately made. There’s no need for complicated assessments of conditions, as with reaction cell technology.

More About HS-20 NX Series | Headspace SamplerHS-20 NX Series | Headspace Sampler
The Shimadzu HS-20 Headspace Sampler developed as the best solution for volatile component analysis, has been improved and introduced as the NX series. The excellent basic performance and user-friendly design provide a powerful solution for scientists in both research and quality control laboratories.
HS-20 NX Series Headspace Sampler overview
- Ultra-low carryover: The HS-20 NX series uses the isolation gas flow to reduce carryover to 1/10 of conventional models. It supports a wide range of chemical species, including high-boiling point compounds and high-polar compounds, and provides reliable analytical results.
- The Isolation Gas Flow: The isolation gas flow prevents sample diffusion from the vent channel, which has been a problem with conventional headspace samplers. (patent pending) Carryover of highly adsorptive compounds is reduced, eliminating the need for
repeating blank runs. - Residual Solvents Analysis in Pharmaceuticals USP <467>: In the residual solvents analysis of medicines, analysis with an aqueous solvent may be performed after analysis with a DMF solvent, but with the HS-20 NX, carryover of DMF is not a problem. HS-20 NX is effective for the analysis of samples with different type of solvents or large concentration differences.
- Excellent reproducibility: High analysis reproducibility is achieved by the sample vial loading from the lower part of the oven. Shimadzu’s unique sample vial delivery system minimizes heat dissipation in the HS oven as the vial enters and leaves the oven, and maintains high temperature stability during repeated analyses.
- High-temperature capability and short inert flow path: The vial oven and sample line can be set to 300 °C and the transfer line can be set to 350 °C. In addition, the sample path is designed to be inert and at the shortest distance, so that adsorption of analytes, including high-boiling compounds, and peak broadening are suppressed.
- Ready to use an alternative carrier gas: The HS-20 NX series with the latest electronic AFC (Advanced Flow Controller) offers highly accurate carrier gas control at constant linear velocity, constant flow, and constant pressure modes. It supports the use of nitrogen and hydrogen as alternative carrier gases and makes it easy to transfer analysis methods.

The Shimadzu triple-quad GCMS-TQ8050 NX is capable of performing unprecedented quantitative GC-MS/MS analyses of ultra-trace amounts, down to the femtogram level. Equipped with a new, highly efficient detector and three forms of noise-reduction technologies, the GCMS-TQ8050 NX has never been more important in industries such as food safety, cannabis testing, forensics, and more.
GCMS-TQ8050 NX Triple Quadrupole GC-MS overview
Enhanced sensitivity enables ultra-trace level analysis
To maximize the benefits of the Off-Axis Ion Optics, the system features three noise-reduction technologies and a detector with improved amplification performance. Due to these state-of-the-art technologies, the system can reliably detect ultra-trace femtogram-level quantities of ions. The resulting exceptional analytical sensitivity and robustness increase the value of solutions and open the door to new applications.
- High-Efficiency Detector: The GCMS-TQ8050 NX detects peaks more reliably than the GCMS-TQ8040 NX, even for substances with fewer ions reaching the detector. That means it can reliably analyze femtogram-level concentrations with fewer ions.
Simplified user maintenance allows operators to change parts quickly
- Active-Time Management™ That Accurately Determines Operation Time: The mass spectrometer has to be operated in a vacuum condition, the startup and stopping of the system takes time depending on the condition. Determining this can be a challenge. Since the amount of time that the system takes when starting up or stopping is displayed in real time, it is easy to accurately determine when maintenance of the ion source or analysis is possible. Moreover, tasks that until now needed to be performed by the user, such as leak checks upon system startup and auto tuning, are now performed automatically.
- Time Management during Injection Port Maintenance: The Easy sTop function, used to safely maintain the sample injection port without releasing the vacuum, displays the remaining time (coolingdown time) when the septum or the insert can be replaced in real time. Maintenance time can be minimized by understanding the accurate remaining time. Furthermore, by using a ClickTek nut on the top of the sample injection port, the port can be opened or closed without tools, by simply using fingers to twist a lever. That enables faster and easier insert replacement than ever before.
- Time Management for Continuous Analysis: By displaying the time required for continuous analysis in real time, the time when the current continuous analysis will finish can be accurately confirmed. This increases the instrument operating time (active time) by reducing standby time required during continuous analysis or while switching between different users. In addition, because this function makes it easier to schedule the timing for analysis preparations, such as sample preparation and pretreatment, based on the finish time of the previous analysis, it enables analytical processes to be performed more efficiently, which can help improve work-life balance.
Reduces maintenance frequency and long-term operational costs
In addition to ultra-high sensitivity, the GCMS-TQ8050 NX also offers high robustness. The contamination-resistant ion source and the new detector with over five times longer service life ensure that analysis can be performed reliably for a long time. With the ultra-high-sensitivity performance of the GCMS-TQ8050 NX, injection volumes can be reduced even further than before. The service life of inserts, columns, and other consumables can also be extended to reduce maintenance frequency and costs.
- Highly Sensitive and Stable Ion Source: The effect of the filament’s electric potential on the ion source is reduced by placing more distance between the filament and ion source box. In addition, a shield blocks out radiant heat generated from the filament to ensure the ion source box temperature remains uniform. Since this prevents any active spots within the ion source, it provides higher sensitivity for analysis. (Patent: US7939810)
- High-Performance Quadrupole Mass Filter: The high-accuracy mass filter with pre-rods and patented electric field control technology achieves high-accuracy mass separation performance. Also, the pre-rods minimize quadrupole contamination and eliminate the need for quadrupole maintenance.
- Long-Life Detector: Exhaustive efforts to reduce detector loads during analysis resulted in a significantly longer detector service life. Consequently, the instrument needs to be maintained much less frequently, which results in greater uptime.

Smart Database Series provides automated method development
- Smart Database: The Shimadzu “Smart Database” is a database file for creating the method files using “Smart MRM” function. In addition to compound information and transitions, retention index can be registered in the database file. Method creation can be proceeded without calculating the retention time by analyzing the standard samples when using the Automatic Adjustment Retention Time (AART) function. In addition to MRM information, Scan and SIM ion information, mass spectra and calibration curve information from the internal standard method can also be registered in the database file. This allows users to create their own database easily.
Smart MRM sets method to maximize sensitivity
- Smart MRM: Smart MRM makes method development quick and easy. Whether starting from scratch to optimize transitions and collision energies for new compounds, or starting from an MRM database of known target analytes to build a custom MRM method, Smart MRM takes the stress and difficulty out of method development.

GCMS-QP2020 NX overview
Smart Performance
- Provides higher sensitivity and reduces operational costs: A large-capacity differential exhaust turbomolecular pump and a high-performance flow controller ensure that the utmost in sensitivity is obtained under all conditions used for GC. This sensitivity combined with high-speed analysis capabilities helps maximize laboratory efficiency by reducing analysis times. In addition, the system can be safely operated using carrier gases other than helium, such as hydrogen or nitrogen, thereby reducing operating costs.
- Ion Source Featuring High Sensitivity and Long-Term Stability: The filament and the ion source box have been separated, which reduces the impact of the filament potential on the interior of the ion source. In addition, a shield is provided to block radiant heat generated by the filament, achieving a uniform temperature inside the ion source box. Thus, active spots inside the ion source are not prone to occur, enabling high-sensitivity analysis with long-term stability. (Patent: US7939810)
- New Flow Controller Achieves Exceptional Reproducibility: A new flow controller (AFC) with a CPU uses various control methods to control carrier gas flow to a constant flow speed, flowrate, or pressure. It can also accurately trace the analytical conditions already being used. The split line filter can be replaced without any tools. Internal contamination can be confirmed visually, ensuring filters are replaced at the proper time.
- Large-Capacity Differential Exhaust System: Through adoption of a new type of turbomolecular pump with increased exhaust efficiency, the system’s performance is greatly improved when using hydrogen or nitrogen, in addition to helium, as the carrier gas. Moreover, a differential exhaust method is used to create a vacuum separately for the ion source and the quadrupole. As a result, an optimal MS state can be realized regardless of the conditions imposed by the carrier gas used.
Smart Operation
- Dramatic improvement in the efficiency of multicomponent simultaneous analysis: The efficiency of multi-component simultaneous analysis is dramatically improved thanks to Smart SIM™, which simplifies and automates the method creation, and LabSolutions Insight™ software, which greatly reduces the time needed for analyzing data. In addition, databases specialized for specific fields are provided, so regardless of the field in which quantitative analysis is to be performed, highly reliable data can be obtained as the result of the optimized analytical conditions.
- More Convenient Multicomponent Analysis Achieved by Smart SIM: The Smart SIM automatic method creation function automatically configures the SIM program to suit the retention times. Even in cases where there are a number of compounds and they are apportioned to multiple methods, the methods can be integrated while maintaining the sensitivity as is. This significantly reduces the number of analysis cycles and the measurement time, improving productivity.
Smart Data Management
- Easily obtains all the information required for qualitative analysis: With GC/MS, which has significant qualitative capabilities, a wealth of fragment information is obtained, so it is used as a means of identifying unknown compounds. A mass spectral library is generally used as a means of compound identification. However, experience with compound identification is required if the compound is not registered in the mass spectral library, or there are a number of compounds with similar structures. With the GCMS-QP2020 NX, in addition to the mass spectrum, three kinds of value-added compound information are used in combination to support high-accuracy qualitative analysis.
- Databases Containing High Value-Added Retention Indices: Databases are available with retention indices specific to a variety of application fields, including foods, chemistry, fragrances, forensics, and metabolite component analysis. In addition to mass spectra, searches are performed in combination with retention indices, which are very highly compound specific, so isomers and compounds with similar structures are accurately identified.
- Smart EI/CI Ion Source Easily Switches Between EI and CI Methods: The Smart EI/CI ion source has been developed in order to acquire CI data without switching the ion source, and without losing the sensitivity of EI, which is most commonly used. Even when it is difficult to perform identification with the EI mode using the mass spectral library, molecular weight information can be obtained from CI data, thus helping in the estimation of unknown compounds.

More About Nexera XS inert | Ultra High Performance Liquid ChromatographNexera XS inert | Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatograph
For many biopharmaceuticals and medium-molecule drugs, it can be difficult to acquire reliable data using a typical HPLC system, due to adsorption caused by interactions with metal ions. That tendency is particularly true for molecules that contain phosphates, carbonyl groups, or other characteristic elements or functional groups, the adsorption of which can affect analysis in various ways, such as by causing poor peak shape or inadequate sensitivity. Therefore, to increase the sensitivity and accuracy of analysis, it is important to inhibit the adsorption of compounds to the system. In addition to the standard Shimadzu Nexera models made with stainless steel for excellent pressure resistance, broad applicability, and robustness, a new bioinert model has been added to the Nexera series product line. Nexera XS inert UHPLC systems achieve a 105 MPa pressure capacity while inhibiting adsorption to metals by using PEEK or ceramic materials in flow channels where samples flow. They also offer excellent resistance to corrosion and a broad range of pH levels, meaning they can be operated reliably using mobile phases that contain high haloid salt concentrations or have extreme pH levels. More About LCMS-TQ RX SeriesLCMS-TQ RX Series
Shimadzu‘s LCMS-TQ RX Series expands the capability and productivity of triple quadrupole mass spectrometer with performance that can be relied upon. The RX Series has been designed to generate a highly focused ion beam from the ion source to detector bringing together advanced ion guide and collision cell technologies. The result is higher data quality that makes an impact on any LC-MS/MS assay
LCMS-TQ RX Series Overview
- Improving data reliability with high stability and measurement sensitivity
In mass spectrometers that ionize samples by spraying them, the uniformity of the spray affects the stability of measurements. The LCMS-TQ RX Series uses a newly developed CoreSpray nozzle in the ion source to make the spray uniform, thus improving the stability of analytical data. In addition, IonFocus* utilizes fluid analysis and electric field analysis technology to efficiently introduce ions into the MS, removing contaminant components and achieving a higher measurement sensitivity. - Streamlines lab operations through automatic calibration
The PERFORMANCE CONCIERGE function automatically checks the device status (e.g. mass accuracy, spectral intensity) before measurement begins and fine-tunes the device as needed. Optimal performance is thereby assured and downtime reduced. - Optimizes power consumption to reduce energy use and cost
In ecology mode, the instrument monitors its status and automatically shuts down when the device is not in use. Conventionally, the inside of the instrument continues to be heated even after measurements are finished. By minimizing this, power consumption is reduced by approximately 31 %.
* This proprietary Shimadzu ion source provides high sensitivity and durability by eliminating contaminant components. It does so through the efficient intake of ions to the mass spectrometer, utilizing the techniques of fluid and electric field analysis. Conventionally, only the LCMS-8060NX was equipped with this.

More About ICPMS-2040 Series / ICPMS-2050 SeriesICPMS-2040 Series / ICPMS-2050 Series
Shimadzu’s ICPMS-2040 and ICPMS-2050 have approximately twice the sensitivity of conventional models while simultaneously reducing argon gas consumption by roughly one third. Both models also come fully equipped with a variety of easy-to-use workflow optimization functions and software. The result is an impressive reduction in measurement times, analytical costs and environmental loads.
ICPMS-2040 / ICPMS-2050 Series Overview
An ICP-MS measures the mass by ionizing elements using high-temperature plasma* generated from argon gas. Using this high-sensitivity method results in exceptional analysis using extremely small amounts of sample elements.
* Argon plasma is a state of argon gas where it is ionized by adding energy, allowing it to interact with other elements for various scientific applications such as ICP-MS.
Advanced tools that do more with less
Shimadzu’s ICPMS-2040 and ICPMS-2050 provide approximately twice the measuring sensitivity of conventional models through the use of the uniquely designed Mini-Torch System to generate plasma. The ICPMS-2050 achieves even greater sensitivity for specific elements through a special new mechanism for removing unnecessary ions. In addition, both models reduce argon gas consumption to approximately two thirds of the consumption of comparable instruments. They also provide for a more efficient workflow by incorporating as standard a variety of functions to support users and minimize operator intervention.
Key Features
- Significantly improved environmental performance and high sensitivity
The newly designed plasma torch (Mini-Torch System) used in the ICPMS-2040 and ICPMS- 2050 achieves high-sensitivity measurements while using only a small amount of argon gas. Consumption can be further reduced by operating in eco mode whenever data is not being acquired. The ICPMS-2050 is also equipped with a reaction mode which removes ions other than target ions by causing a reaction of hydrogen gas and other materials. This enables even greater sensitivity measurements of specific elements.
- Significantly improved measurement efficiency and reliable data
Conventional ICP-MS measurements can be time-consuming: to replace the gas used, to remove unnecessary ions and to rinse the instrument. The ICPMS-2040/2050 models shorten measurement times by incorporating a newly designed gas controller to replace gas quickly. In addition, by using the ProActive Rinsing function, the sample is measured while the sample-suctioning flow line is rinsed simultaneously. As a result, reliable data can be acquired efficiently even when over 100 samples are measured sequentially.
- Pre-programmed settings for easy use and immediate start
Shimadzu’s ICPMS-2040/2050 models include – as standard – conditions for typical measurements and instrument settings for the pharmaceutical, environmental and food industries. This allows users to start analyses immediately after installation of the instrument, with only minimal training. The instruments also come fully equipped with additional functions that simplify workflow operations, including an extended rinsing function for automatically adding and executing rinsing after high-concentration samples are measured.
The ICPMS-2040/2050 series models are the latest in Shimadzu’s tireless development of precision instruments that increase analytic performance while reducing the time, cost, complexity and environmental impact of the essential lab work at the heart of modern science and industry.
